Gerard Reinmuth is one of three directors of the architectural practice, Terroir, with offices in Hobart and Sydney. Terroir demonstrates a high-tech, almost paperless method of design which was developed to communicate between the Sydney and Hobart offices. Gerard describes the architecture of Terroir in relation to a variety of distinctive concepts including: empathy, the sublime and sentimentality. The surprisingly varied influences of Terroir include the music of Bjork, the paintings of Edward Munch and Greek Island churches.

Reinmuth Blythe Balmforth TERRIOR was formed in 1998 and simultaneously opened two offices - in Sydney and in Hobart. The practice was formed in response to the interests of the three partners, whose combined interests and fields of activity encompass all aspects of architectural practice including teaching, writing, architectural, urban and interior design and project management and procurement

Gerard Reinmuth is partner-in-charge of the Sydney office.

Structurally, the TERRIOR practice operates as a single entity with the workload managed freely between the two offices according to the availability and special skills of the staff. The output of the practice is focused by the adherence to a collective "ideology" that ensures a consistency and approach across all projects

Recently, Gerard was appointed an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney. This is further evidence of the importance placed on research and on the development of meaningful relationships between practice and the academy. TERROIR has encouraged connections and collaborations that are unusual when compared to the modes of traditional practice but which create places where innovation can flourish.
