 Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand ‘access’ as a process linking all forms of information and communications, all types of transportation and access to and within existing new private and public built environments.
  • Be more familiar with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
  • Be more familiar with access standards, in particular AS1428 Parts 1-4
  • Understand BCA requirements regarding design for access, both performance based and deemed to satisfy provisions
  • Become familiar with the liability of architects in relation to access, equity and design.

NATSPEC Presents: A Specification Writing Forum NS0519

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand the role of the specification as one of the contract documents.
  • To appreciate the extent to which a specification communicates design intent and to understand it’s other roles.
  • To appreciate the responsibility taken on board, by the professional, in writing a specification, which will impact all parts of a construction project and the associated personnel and their organisations.
  • To gain an increased understanding of what can go wrong in the writing of a specification, such as the implications of omissions from or duplication in the specification document.
  • To increase awareness of what material is available in assisting the specifier to prepare specifications, from NATSPEC.

Jon Farren presents: Recent changes to the BCA affecting Sound Insulation JF0536

Learning outcomes:

  • Clearly understand the sound insulation requirements of the Building Codes of Australia, including any shortcomings of the codes and sound insulation issues not covered in the codes.
  • Know where to find information on those sound insulation issues which are not covered by the BCA.

  • Understand how to approach the selection of construction materials to provide the appropriate sound insulation for a variety of circumstances.
