She believes LOD is the solution to the failures of Transit Oriented Development, or TOD. Caroline describes a variety of projects, such as the replanning of Hasting Street, Noosa, and the new master-plan for James Cook University, in Townsville, to demonstrate how urban design can reconnects the urban population to the environment and cure Australia’s obese cities.

He presents three well-known memorials, designed by his firm, TZG. All three commissions were won in design competitions and were designed in collaboration with prominent Australian artists. The fine points of memorial design are revealed as Peter describes the collaborative design process, the design competition process, construction issues and the satisfaction of the final memorial opening ceremony.

Prof Peter Newman - Curtin University, Perth

presents:

Rebuilding our Cities and Economies PN0916

How do we rebuild our cities and economies for a fossil fuel-free future? The need for an eighty percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 means the age of car dependence and fossil fuel reliance is over. Peter Newman, Professor of sustainability at Curtain University, addresses this pertinent problem in relation to five key issues: car dependence, renewable energy, smart infrastructure, the Global Green New Deal and competition between cities.
