This talk by Caroline Pidcock succinctly outlines her understanding of the principals of Passive Solar Design and demonstrates how these are applied in the real world.
Firstly, the fundamentals of the science of passive solar design are summarised, followed by an examination of solar heat and energy; materials; climate zones and the different ways of designing for them. Finally, a detailed look at passive solar design principals follows using examples of proposed and built works.
This talk will be most welcome for those who are not yet familiar or comfortable with Passive Solar Design principals, or who want a refresher in this area. It also presents a ‘first hand’ an opportunity to see her firm’s work.

In addition to running her own practice Caroline Pidcock Architects, Caroline is very involved in the wider architectural profession. She holds a seat on the NSW Architects Registration Board. She is also Chair of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) and continue as Member of the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB).
Caroline has and continues to be involved in academia. She tutored briefly at Sydney University before taking up a full time position at the University of Newcastle from 1993 to 1997. She continues to contribute to various academic institutions around the country, especially with regard to her design approach to ESD and was appointed to adjunct Professor of Architecture at the Faculty of the Built Environment of the University of NSW in June 2004.
Caroline has presented widely in public forums, invited lectures and has chaired a number of business and academic forums. She has also been published extensively in newspapers, magazines, radio and television.
