Rod has had extensive experience and is well qualified in bushfire protection, management and evacuation which includes over 12 years as a specialist bushfire consultant.
During this time he has been instrumental in the preparation of bushfire protection assessments for more than 2,700 development applications, subdivisions, special purpose developments, Master plans, residential and commercial properties, including the preparation of numerous bushfire evacuation plans. He has also managed the preparation of a Bushfire Protection Planning Strategy for NW and SW Sydney Urban Expansion for Planning NSW, prepared award winning Asset Protection Zone strategies for the total urban bushland interface of Wollongong City, Baulkham Hills Shire Council and City of Blue Mountains Council. He has also managed the preparation (by contract) of Fire Management Plans for more than 60 NPWS national parks and nature reserves. He has prepared bushfire protection strategies for more than 150 towns and villages in NSW and many more rural communities.
His consultancy draws on his experience through the operational management (fire fighting) of more than 1600 bushfires in NSW.
