Michael Fox, Director of Access Australia, is an architect and internationally recognised leader in the field of access and equity.
This course outlines the legal and technical requirements regarding access to and within the built environment. The discussion includes the importance of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and its impact on the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and Australian Standards.
Michael Fox provides a comprehensive summary of BCA clauses regarding access for Class 1 to 10 buildings, Australian Standard AS1428 Parts 1 to 4 and proposed AS1428 Parts 5 to 8. The course provides detailed commentary and recommendations on public domain elements including parking, ramps, tactile indicators and surface treatments.
The course also discusses the draft Access to Premises Standard (APS), planned for adoption in mid 2006, including proposed requirements for access to pools and lifts in low rise buildings.

Michael is an experienced architect, planner and access consultant with involvement in access and equity since 1972. He is a director of Access Australia and related architectural company Michael Fox Architects. HE is an accredited member of ACAA – the Association of Consultants in Access Australia.
In June 2004, Michael was elected President of RI, a global network regarding the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities – www.riglobal.org . From 1996 to 2004, he was Global Chair of ICTA, the RI International Commission on Technology and Accessibility – www.ictaglobal.org .
