Professor Rob Adams works at the City of Melbourne where he has, for the last twenty years, led a program on the urban design of the city. He has been instrumental in transforming the city of Melbourne from the almost lifeless, business district that it was in 1985 to the lively, social, public realm that it is today. By outlining the planned approach that has been implemented in regards to Melbourne’s waterways, built form, street patterns, public transport and parks, over the last twenty years, Professor Rob Adams demonstrates the design attitude that is required to achieve the successful urban design of a city. This presentation demonstrates that quality urban design is fundamental to the successful design of a city’s public realm.
